During a recent trip to Kabul for National Geographic Television, my team and I tracked down and interviewed former Guantanamo Bay detainees. Dr. Ali Shah Mousavi, a pediatrician, had fought with the Mujadeddin against the Russians and fled the Taliban. In 2003, he returned to Afghanistan and was running for the National Assembly when he was sold for a bounty to the American troops. He was released after three years in Guantanamo Bay without being charged. His American lawyer called him "a living saint."
