Back in Washington D.C., I became the director of a Knight Foundation journalism fellowship. Once a year, we honored outstanding foreign journalists who had demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to journalistic standards (the Knight International Press Fellowship Award). One of the winners in 2004 was Ali Djerri, a top editor from Algeria.
